The team at the VIB Agro-Incubator, established in 2021 at the former site of CropDesign (BASF) in Nevele, is pleased to announce the first step of the construction phase of their new high throughput plant phenotyping system is completed. The automatic mobile container system exists of six rows of 40 rolling tables with a total capacity of 16320 0.8L pots or 5760 6L pots or 3840 10L pots. The next phase in construction will be the installation of a robot arm that can pick up the plants - 4 or 8 at the time depending on the pot size – to transfer them onto a conveyor belt that transports them to the image cabinet. Once completed, the facility will be available for collaborations with both industry and academia to support their agricultural innovations. They offer high-tech greenhouses, automated image and statistical data analyses.
